This epic 9 night Classic Namibia Safari explores the best of Namibia. From the rolling red sand dunes of Sossusvlei to the interesting landscapes with desert-adapted wildlife of Palmwag in Damaraland and ending in a private reserve bordering Etosha National Park. 

Sossusvlei is in the Namib-Naukluft National Park with the startling red sand dunes contrasting against the vivid blue skies. Climb the tallest dunes in the world and see the petrified trees of Dead Vlei. This is a photographer’s dream destination! From there you will fly north to Damaraland and the Palmwag concession. Explore the Kunene region and the Uniab River which attracts animals to drink. It is here where you will see the largest population of southwestern black rhinos in Africa.

You will end this Classic Namibia Safari at the Ongava Private Game Reserve which shares the southern boundary with Etosha National Park. This is a prolific 30 000-hectare private reserve and is considered one of the top private game reserves in the region. The reserve offers visitors the perfect combination of wildlife safari experiences within and around the Etosha National Park.

Day by Day itinerary

Days 01 to 04 – Kulala Desert Lodge

Depart from Windhoek Airport on a small aircraft south to the dunes of Sossuvlei.

Nestled at the foot of the Sossusvlei Dunes, Kulala Desert Lodge offers stunning views and a private entrance to the Namib Naukluft National Park. Visit the enormous sand dunes of Sossusvlei, and the clay pan, Dead Vlei. Take game drives through the Kulala Wilderness Reserve, looking for oryx, brown hyena and more. End your day with a perfectly positioned sundowner spot. Guided walks are available or take to the skies on a hot air balloon trip. 

Each room has a private rooftop area, where you can enjoy a sleep out under the stars. The tents are under thatch which helps keep them cool. Each tent is on a raised deck with a sitting area outside and an ensuite bathroom.  The main area has a large dining and lounge area as well as a welcoming pool.

Days 04 to 07 – Desert Rhino Camp

You will fly from Sossuvlei to Damaraland.

Located along ancient watercourses is the Desert Rhino Camp. Damaraland is located roughly between the Skeleton Coast and Etosha. This Palmwag Concession is a remote wilderness of simple beauty, desert-adapted wildlife and a large population of the endangered black rhino. Track Rhino on foot or vehicle with the Save The Rhino team as they look after their precious charges. Desert Rhino Camp offers uninterrupted views of the region and daily game drives exploring the vast area in search of giraffes, elephants, lions and more. 

Each of the classic safari tents at Desert Rhino Camp is raised on decks with a sitting area outside, is ensuite, and enjoys views over the area. The main area has a sitting and lounge area, offers alfresco dining and has a swimming pool.

Days 04 to 07 – Ongava Lodge

End this Classic Namibia Safari with a visit to Namibia’s wildlife haven of Etosha National Park. Ongava Lodge is situated in the privately owned Ongava Game Reserve along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park. Placed as it is close to the top of a hill in the foothills of the Ondundozonanandana range, the vantage point is beautiful and overlooks a well-frequented waterhole and the plains beyond. Explore the Ongava Reserve on a game drive to see rhinos, endemic black-faced impala, lions and more. Spend a day on a game drive in Etosha National Park and see the high density of wildlife, that congregates around the waterholes around Etosha Pan. Ongava has a hide overlooking the waterhole where you can get an unusual view of the game as they come to drink. 

Ongava Lodge has rooms made of stone and under thatch. Each room has an outside sitting area, air conditioning, an ensuite bathroom with an outdoor and indoor shower and overlooks the reserve. The main areas of Ongava Lodge boast a pool and lounge, dining areas that all overlook the active waterhole.
