THREE RIVERS ZAMBIA SAFARI
Zambia is home to some of Africa’s most pristine wilderness areas, where great rivers shape both the landscapes and the wildlife that thrives within them. Day by Day itinerary
Days 1 to 5: Lion Camp, South Luangwa
Your safari begins with a scheduled flight from Lusaka to Mfuwe, followed by a road transfer into South Luangwa National Park. Known for its high density of leopards and exceptional predator sightings, the park is also home to large herds of elephants, buffalo, and endemic species such as Thornicroft’s giraffe and Cookson’s wildebeest. The Luangwa River forms the park’s natural boundary and attracts wildlife in abundance, especially during the dry season when water sources are scarce elsewhere.
Lion Camp is situated in a remote northern sector of the park, offering an exclusive experience away from busier central areas. Elevated walkways link the main lodge to ten spacious suites, each with canvas walls, thatched roofs, and private decks overlooking the open plains. Interiors feature natural materials and neutral tones that blend seamlessly with the surroundings. The camp includes a swimming pool, open-air dining, and a cosy lounge with sweeping views. Activities focus on both game drives and guided walking safaris, allowing you to experience the park’s diverse ecosystems and prolific wildlife from different perspectives.
Days 5 to 9: Potato Bush Camp, Lower Zambezi
From Mfuwe, you fly to Lower Zambezi National Park, one of Zambia’s most scenic reserves. The Zambezi River forms the southern boundary, while the Zambezi Escarpment rises to the north. The park is known for its large elephant herds, frequent sightings of lion and leopard, and an abundance of hippo and crocodile in the river channels. The combination of riverine woodland, floodplains, and escarpment hills creates a diverse and rewarding safari environment.
Potato Bush Camp sits along the banks of the Zambezi River and offers four luxury safari tents, including a spacious two-bedroom family tent. Each suite features a private plunge pool, en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, and a shaded veranda with river views. The camp’s main area includes a comfortable lounge, dining space, and swimming pool, all designed to maximize the river setting. Activities are varied: enjoy traditional game drives, walking safaris, boat cruises, and some of Africa’s best canoeing opportunities. Angling is also popular, with the Zambezi famous for tiger fish. Evenings often conclude with sundowners on the water as the river reflects the colours of the setting sun.
Days 9–13: Chisa Busanga Camp, Kafue
The final leg of your journey takes you via Lusaka to the northern sector of Kafue National Park. Covering over 22,000 square kilometres, Kafue is Zambia’s largest national park and one of Africa’s most diverse. The Busanga Plains are a seasonal floodplain open from June to November, famous for large herds of red lechwe and puku, as well as lions that thrive in this rich environment. Wide open vistas and high concentrations of game make this an exceptional area for photography and observing predator-prey interactions.
Chisa Busanga Camp offers one of Zambia’s most unique safari accommodations. The camp features four “Nest Rooms” — treehouse-style suites inspired by weaver bird nests found in the region. Each nest provides complete privacy with en-suite facilities, solar power, and elevated views across the plains. The main area is built on raised decking and includes dining and lounge spaces overlooking the floodplains. Activities centre on morning and afternoon game drives, as well as guided walks that highlight the smaller details of the ecosystem.
Day 13: Departure
After a final morning activity and breakfast, you will fly from Busanga back to Lusaka, where your Three Rivers Zambia Safari concludes.
